Timing is everything. First they came for Stephen Colbert. Then Jimmy Kimmel. The recent “domino effect” infringement on free speech “backfired bigly.”

A deadly serious reality show president can’t take a joke. Hyper-partisan politics trump satire. When headlines appear as punchlines, late-night monologues are no longer strictly-for-laughs. Current affairs would be truly tragic, were it not for the lens and balm of comic relief. “That’s entertainment!”
