"CURTAINS!"
No Laughing Matter
“I'm so old, I remember when Letterman used to be funny and it was presidents who were serious.” —Rush Limbaugh
Timing is everything. First they came for Stephen Colbert. Then Jimmy Kimmel. The recent “domino effect” infringement on free speech “backfired bigly.”
A deadly serious reality show president can’t take a joke. Hyper-partisan politics trump satire. When headlines appear as punchlines, late-night monologues are no longer strictly-for-laughs. Current affairs would be truly tragic, were it not for the lens and balm of comic relief. “That’s entertainment!”
“The duty of comedy is to correct men by amusing them.” — Moliere
